Organic seeds are Seeds taken from plants grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. Seeds with third-party certification are tested in laboratories before being sold for the end user. Usage of sewage irradiation and genetic engineering is prohibited in organic seed harvesting. Conventionally grown seeds come from plants that grew in the fields even longer than food crops and are likely to have had even more exposure to synthetic pesticides and fungicides to keep them viable as seed producers. Organic seeds are produced without the use of synthetic pesticides and fungicides.

For a seed to be organic, the plant it came from must have been grown organically, and it must not be treated with any chemicals after harvest. When organic growing first came to national prominence, large quantities of seeds that came from chemical-free plants weren’t available.
